Profiting from the Word

The question of profiting from Scripture provides the theme for this book, originally published as a series in Studies in the Scriptures.

The Mortification of Sin

In this abridgment of a classic work, The Mortification of Sin, the famous Puritan John Owen shows the need for Christians to engage in a lifelong battle against the sinful tendencies that remain in them, despite having been brought to faith and new life in Christ.

Owen is very insistent that believers cannot hope to succeed in this battle in their own strength. He sees clearly that the fight can be won only through faith in Christ, and in the power of the Spirit. Fighting sin with human strength will produce only self-righteousness, superstition, and anxiety of conscience. But with faith in Christ and the power of the Spirit, victory is certain. The temptations in times like Owen’s and ours are obvious on every side; the remedy to them is clearly pointed out in this practical and helpful book.

Conscience: What It Is, How to Train It, and Loving Those Who Differ

Christian, meet your conscience.

What do you do when you disagree with other Christians? How do you determine which convictions are negotiable and which are not? How do you get along with people who have different personal standards?

All of these questions have to do with the conscience. Yet there is hardly a more neglected topic among Christians. In this much-needed book, a New Testament scholar and a cross-cultural missionary explore all thirty passages in the New Testament that deal with the conscience, showing how your conscience impacts virtually every aspect of life, ministry, and missions. As you come to see your conscience as a gift from God and learn how to calibrate it under the lordship of Jesus Christ, you will not only experience the freedom of a clear conscience but also discover how to lovingly interact with those who hold different convictions.

“Thank you for your interest in the church. We welcome you to explore our website and encourage you to join us for one of our regular services.
